lockup-mate®MINESPEC is designed for a specific application in the mining industry. It includes software and hardware differences to suit mining operations and a harsher operating environment.

 

Typically, a site mine vehicle has a speed limit of about 30kph and is permanently locked into low range 4WD and locked into a gear to restrict driver operations.

 

Vehicles with an automatic transmission are often locked into DRIVE position, and this can cause downhill runaway and speeds above 30kph when descending into the mine.

By locking the transmission torque converter, lockup-mate® improves engine compression braking and can prevent runaway.  Maximum possible engine braking is achieved when the torque converter is locked. 

 

Other benefits include lower transmission temperatures resulting in fuel savings and reduced service intervals.

 

lockup-mate®MINESPEC provides the following performance benefits:

  • Fully Automatic Operation: The system is fully automatic and will lock and unlock the torque converter clutch based on digital information obtained from the ECUs via the CANBus. Fully automatic operation in high or low range 4WD in both DRIVE and MANUAL modes. Lockup automatically occurs in 2nd gear and above. 
    There is no driver involvement and the system cannot be switched off.  The system automatically activates based on speed, gear, RPM and transmission temperature.
  • Improved Engine Braking Performance: Locking the torque converter provides direct-drive from the engine to the wheels resulting in maximum engine compression braking (just like a manual gearbox). 
  • Transmission Heat Reduction: By eliminating transmission slip that occurs when the clutch is unlocked results in significantly less heat generation. Prolonged excessive heat can damage the transmission components, requiring transmission re-builds.
  • Reduced Transmission Maintenance Costs: Consistently reduced transmission temperature will extend the life of the transmission oil and increase the interval between oil services. 
  • Improved Fuel Consumption: Heat generated by a slipping torque converter is essentially wasted fuel. Locking the torque converter provides manual gearbox efficiency.
